World trade increased tremendously throughout the 1990s. More and more products and goods are transported in containers by sea all over the world. When the ships pass from one climate zone to another, from heat to cold, moisture is formed. Moisture in containers and moisture damage to freight has become a serious problem for importers and exporters. However, in 1995 the Swedish inventor, Bror Gustafsson in Halmstad had an ingenious idea. By using calcium chloride, that has a remarkable capacity to absorb moisture, it would be possible to remove the moisture from load spaces. Absormatic s creator, Bror Gustafsson thought that his invention should not only be effective at absorbing moisture, but also environmentally-adapted, cheap and that it should not run on electricity. He has succeeded in combining all of these characteristics in the product. Absormatic is made out of recyclable plastic (polypropylene), cardboard, it is a 'use once' item and requires no electricity. Since its launch in 1995, Absormatic has been continuously developed, tested and improved. In tests at Chalmers University of Technology in G teborg, Absormatic proved to absorb significantly more water than its competitors and, in addition, did not release any water back into the container. During 1999, Absormatic made its breakthrough on the world market. Many major and well-known companies world-wide use the product today.
